Permanent Resident Applications

Canada offers three routes for immigration, namely:

  1. Economic immigration for applicants who may economically establish themselves in Canada 

  2. Family reunification for people who are sponsored by their family members to Canada

  3. Refugees for convention refugees and those who need protection

1. Economic Immigration Pathways

      BCPNP Base Category     

Applicant Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a business owner-manager, OR, 4+ years of experience as a senior manager, OR, a combination of 1+ year of experience as a business owner-manager and 2+ years of experience as a senior manager

  • Personal net worth of $600,000 Canadian dollars 

  • Obtained a post-secondary credential, OR, experience as an active business owner-manager for at least three of the last five years with 100% ownership in the business

  • You must submit a business proposal to establish a new business or purchase of an existing business in British Columbia

  • Have, or be eligible for, legal immigration status in Canada

  • Minimum of CLB 4 equivalent in English or French. Must submit a copy of valid language proficiency test results at final report (if not previously submitted)

  • English requirements: CLB level 4 and above, equivalent to an IELTS average score of 4.0, of which listening is not less than 4.5. English is only required at the time of PR application submission after 18 months of business operating with a work permit.

Business establishment requirements

  • Can establish a new business, or invest into an existing local business with shareholders no less than 33%.

  • Anywhere in BC

  • Invest at least $200,000 Canadian dollars

  • Create at least one full-time job for a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident

      BCPNP Regional Pilot     ​​

Applicant Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a business owner-manager, OR, 4+ years of experience as a senior manager, OR, a combination of 1+ years of experience as a business owner-manager and 2+ years of experience as a senior manager

  • Personal net worth of $300,000 Canadian dollars

  • Obtained a post-secondary credential, OR, experience as an active business owner-manager for at least three of the last five years with 100% ownership in the business

  • You must submit a business proposal to establish a new business in British Columbia and be referred by an enrolled community

  • have, or be eligible for, legal immigration status in Canada

  • An exploratory visit is required. You must engage and visit an enrolled community for support before registering

  • Minimum of CLB 4 equivalent in English or French. Must submit a copy of valid language proficiency test at registration

Business establishment requirements

  • Establish an eligible new business aligned with the priorities of the referring community

  • Work with participating communities by development region (population less than 75000)

  • Make an eligible personal investment of at least CAD$100,000 in the business

  • Holds at least 51% of shares in the company

  • Create at least one new full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

 

      Start-up Visa Program (Federal venture immigration)     ​​​

Applicant Requirements

  • Minimum CLB5

  • Obtain a letter of support from one of the designated organizations

  • Each applicant accounts for at least 10% of shares in the company with maximum of 5 applicants in one project

  • Applicants and designated organizations together hold at least 50% of shares

  • Provide evidence that actively and ongoing managing this business from within Canada at the time of PR application

      The Self-employed Persons Program (Federal)     ​​

Applicant Requirements

  • At least 2 years of self-employed in relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics OR

  • Participated in world-class cultural activities and sports events. 

  • Be willing and able to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada

  • Age, education, and language will be calculated towards the scoring system

      Self-employed Work Permit     

Program Advantages

  • No minimum investment requirement

  • No official asset audit requirement

  • No language requirement when submitting the work permit, only needed when submitting PR application.

  • No age limit

 

Applicant Requirements

  • CLB level 5 or more

  • Have senior management experience

  • One-time investment to establish a new company branch or purchase a local Canada business.

      Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilots     

Applicant Requirements

  • Canada employer providing job opportunities; 

  • At least one year of education certificate after graduating from high school;        

  • Received 6 months of full-time nursing training at school or 12 months of experience Paid full-time nanny nursing work experience.   

  • English Language at CLB 5 at the time of PR Application    

  • Requires 2 years of work experience in Canada for PR. 

  • The applicant applies for a work permit while waiting for permanent residency.  

      Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot     

Applicant Requirements

  • High school graduation or above 

  • Have relevant work experience or graduated from designated schools and majors in that community    

  • English level at least CLB 4, different job positions require different language levels at the time of PR Application    

  • Willingness to live in the community.  

  • Each community will also have its own additional eligibility requirements, job search process, and community recommendation application process

      Saskatchewan Farm Immigration Program     

Applicant Requirement

  • Willing to invest in farm and operate the business in Saskatchewan

  • Sign an agreement to purchase and operate a farm in Saskatchewan requires the first payment of $75,000 to a trust account if the terms of the agreement are completed later, and if the provisions in the Saskatchewan are not completed within two years, the fee will go to Saskatchewan;      

  • Exploration visits in Saskatchewan for 10 days and more; 

  • Previous relevant farm working experience 

  • Feasible business plan

      Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Category Immigration Program     

Applicant Requirement

  • Have a minimum of $500,000 (CAD) in Net Business and Personal Assets.

  • Have at least three years of relevant business management or entrepreneurial experience gained in the past ten years.

  • Plan to invest a minimum of $300,000 (CAD) in Regina and Saskatoon, or a minimum of $200,000 (CAD) in all other Saskatchewan communities.

  • Your plan to establish an eligible business that aligns with the points in the Entrepreneur Category Points Grid.

  • Your ownership of at least one-third (33 1/3 per cent) of the equity of a business in Saskatchewan, unless your total investment is $1 million CAD or higher.

  • Your commitment to the day-to-day management of the business.

  • Creation of two employment opportunities in Saskatchewan for Canadians or permanent residents who are not related to you.

      Agri-Food Pilot (Federal)     

Applicant Requirement

  • a minimum of 1 year of non-seasonal, full-time work in the past 3 years (at least 1,560 hours) in 1 or more of the eligible occupations listed under 1 of the eligible industries

  • a full-time, non-seasonal job offer from a Canadian employer in one of the eligible industries and occupations

  • Language Requirement: CLB 5

  • Education: a Canadian high school diploma, or an educational credential assessment (ECA) report from a designated organization or professional body showing that you completed a foreign credential at the secondary school level or above

      Express Entry (Federal)     

Program Advantages 

  • Frequent invitation throughout the year

  • Flexible

  • The score can be improved based on Canadian work experience and language skills

 

Applicant Requirements

  • Post-secondary education credentials will be entering a scoring system (Federal Skill Trade Program has no minimum education requirements)

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program

    • Requires IELTS 6 and above

    • Work overseas for at least a year

  • Federal Skilled Trade

    • Special technical positions, such as farm supervisor, chef, electrician, with relevant Canadian certificates;

    • At least 2 years of work experience

    • English listening and speaking CLB 5, reading and writing is CLB 4

  • Canadian Experience Class

    • One year of in-Canada working experience

    • English level CLB 5 and above, depending on job type

      Provincial Nominees     

Applicant Requirements

  • Adopt a scoring system, the better the conditions, the higher the score 

  • Need local employers, if graduates from the province’s accredited universities and colleges with designated majors, may not need employer support   

  • Have a certain level of English language, although there is no language minimum for senior management positions, at least be able to prove that you are competent for this job in Canada;    

  • There is no work experience requirement for international students. But to prove that it is real work    

  • Overseas or local skilled immigrants must prove that they have 2 years of relevant work experience   

 

2. Family Reunification Pathways: 

 

You can sponsor certain relatives to come to Canada if you’re at least 18 years old and a Canadian citizen, or person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act, or permanent resident of Canada. Family members that can be sponsored under this program include:

  • Your spouse, partner or dependent children

  • Your parents and grandparents

  • Your relatives 

  • Your adopted child
